Gaslands Pedestrian Comparisons

At the time of writing, “Gaslands” does not feature official rules for infantry/pedestrians.  There are some homebrew infantry rules doing the rounds, with the unofficial rules in Wargames Illustrated (#386, December 2019) probably being the most well known.
For hobby enthusiasts of a certain age, it is pretty much impossible to ignore the draw of this image:

#38 – #111: Trees and Fences

The trees are on the cusp of what I count as a “completed item” in my yearly tally really.  Sticking something to a base doesnt usually qualify, but these were a little more involved than similar projects.
The memory of the long evenings spent gluing flock and applying texture and washes etc is still close enough for me to regard prepping those as work.  So they count.
The fences were assembled, painted and based so they certainly count.

So thats about one hundred models, plus about forty terrain elements, applying the Gimli System of measurement.  It could be better, and it could be worse.

The cherry trees feel a bit like a cheat, but they took an age to finish, so they count.

The total is less than I had hoped, but real life was a bit messier than usual this year, which was the main issue I think.  The second half of the year was far less productive than the first too.  I will have to keep an eye on that, see if its a pattern that I can break.

Pleasingly, a number of the 2016 weekends that I would have spent painting were taken up with meeting and gaming with various enthusiastic hobby folk, many of whom I have met largely through this blog.  There is no better reason to miss some painting time than to actually use the little guys in games with mates.  See you all again this year I hope!

I tried a few different techniques and approaches last year, some of which worked better than others, but there was definite progress.  I worked on upping the photography aspect a bit too, with mixed results but an improvement overall I think.

I painted a hell of a lot of purple.  2016 was a pretty purple year.

The tallies for previous years are listed below and they each link to a previous summary year, for any of you are interested.

2015 = 129 finished items
2014 = 144 finished items
2013 = 192 finished items
2012 = 159 finished items
2011 = 145 finished items

I am hopeful that 2017 will be more productive.  Fingers crossed.

What, Blue Pussycat? Whoa, whoa, whoa!

This was revealed by Duncan on Warhammer TV a little earlier today

Its a non-canonical blue gyrinx, the second ever 40k model of their psychic space cat…

…and its entertainingly similar in colour to my non-canonical blue gyrinx 🙂

Silver Tower Update

All going well there should be a series of Silver Tower related posts appearing here soon.

The Silver Tower Project described a little while ago went rather well and I will write a short report about it soon.  It has made me excited about getting my own fully painted set ready over the next few months.  With that in mind I have put up a painting record page to publicly encourage me to get on with it.

If you fancy a look at the plan, then click on the “Silver Tower” tab at the top of the page, or else just click HERE.

(some of the figures in the images shown belong to my Silver Tower adventuring colleagues: they are not all mine)

Colony 87 Kickstarter

A friend of mine (“axiom” from Magpie and Old Lead) is running his second “Colony 87” Kickstarter.

Miniatures painted by “Asslessman” from the “Leadplague” blog.

I dont tend to promote Kickstarters on this blog too often, but…

  1. it is a friends project
  2. the promotional figures are painted by another friend (“Asslessman” from Leadplague)
  3. the models are aimed precisely at folks like me, so readers here might like them too.

Also of note is that if you missed the previous C87 Kickstarter there is another pledge option to get the original six figures, which are equally beautiful designs and sculpts.

If you like nice miniatures and/or gaming in less militarised sci-fi zones then it really is worth taking a look at these.

Back to the regularly scheduled painted toy soldier posts next time.

#129: Gretchin Space Pirate

#129: Gretchin Space Pirate

128 129 “items” isnt too bad. About one model every three days sounds alright considering I have to go to work and do all those other dull grown up things. I came off the boil a bit in the second half of the year, largely for a few personal reasons.  I need to watch it though, Im slipping.  I would like this total to be a figure that remains the low point over coming years.  I am hopeful that I can top two hundred this year if I keep my head screwed on a little better.  Watch this space.

I have recently been working on a large number of items that are currently in varying stages of completion.  I hope to finish a few more of those off early this year, hopefully to kick-start output again.

Thanks to all of the regular commentators and contributors.  An individual shout out goes to Mr Saturday with whom I have shared the Judgement Day project with in 2015: long may it continue.

For the sake of comparison, here are the links to previous years tallies and photos:

Judgement Day Xmas Break

Mr Saturday and I have agreed to take a short break from the Judgement Day project.  With various other commitments at this time of year, we reckon that February first is a good time to pick things up, so Judgement Day #35 will be posted on that date.

The figures below are what we have managed to tag team through for the last while, while also keeping other projects on the boil.

Hopefully you will join us in February for more 28mm Dredd items (although there will be other items here in the meantime too)

Thanks for your enthusiasm for the project in 2015!

Rare Miniatures For Sale

A brother of a hobbyist friend of mine is going through some very serious medical procedures at the moment.  It is putting serious financial pressure on his family at a time when they have a lot more important things to be thinking about.

Some friends and I have supplied some toy soldier items – often limited or unreleased items – for Ebay auction this week, with all proceeds going directly to the family involved.  The link to the ‘Love For A Brother’s Brother Charity Thing’ auctions is here.

Check it out to see if there is anything that takes your fancy and know that if you do indulge, that it is for a good cause.

If the items for sale are not quite your thing then feel free to contribute to the gofundme charity fundraiser if you like.

Thanks for reading.
