I painted these three figures as part of a recent trade with a LAF member. The new owner will be basing the figures himself to match his own stuff, so they are unbased in the shot. Two of the figures are replications of paint jobs that I have done before (more info on the the Assassin here and the Navigator here) but the space dwarf is an original scheme. The brief for the squat was “Orange plus black plus artistic licence. Just kept it fresh with an RT flavour.”
The little orange guy looks a bit like he is in some sort of EVA suit to me. I enjoyed painting the figure and I will be keeping an eye out for a copy for myself now. I like how the scheme worked out.
According to Stuff of Legends the figure originally went on sale as part of the first Warhammer 40,000 Rogue Trader release. It was subsequently listed under some other names like “Squat with grenade launcher” and “Iron Bonce”.

The figure is nicely different from any other GW squat that I have painted, plus painting orange that way was fun for a one off. I wouldnt try to paint an army that colour.
The photos are a bit grainier than usual today for some reason. Ho hum.

Your space dwarves always make me smile. Not many people seem to paint/post these cool looking little guys so it’s nice to see some unique things kicking around!
The Iron Bonce came out lovely and vibrant 😀

Thanks!
Space Dwarfs are certainly a niche part of a niche hobby. I was never particularly drawn to them before last year to be honest, but I do enjoy that they are a little off the beaten track.
Iron Bonce did turn out to be a nice colour. I would find that scheme too labour intensive to apply to more than a couple of figures though: I wont be painting an orange army in the same way any time soon.
Thanks for the feedback!
