GINGER: Cyber-Gyrinx

GINGER1

I like cats, I like robots and I like miniatures, ergo I present G.I.N.G.E.R (General Intelligent Nullification and Galactic Exploration Replicant)

GINGER is my entry into the “Future Wars Painting Club” on LAF.  The model is a “Robo-Cat” from Crossover Miniatures.  Its quite a titchy little thing.

    • Thanks David. I have a number of multi-coloured cat models at this stage. I find them to be quite enjoyable palette cleansers that allow me to try out different paints or combinations etc. Disproportionately satisfying little projects.

  3. I love the orange colour you used here. Very striking.

    • I probably wouldnt try to paint a lot of that orange colour – it would be too laborious for someone with my limited patience – but on a one off, small model it was fun.

It did work out nice and bright and remained orange rather than ending up red/beige/yellow, which was cool. Im glad that you like it.

That orange might be repeated on the suspect attire that the model we traded a while back wears, so Im glad that you like it 🙂

  4. Beautiful colour blending around the nose and jowels.

    • Thanks Andrew. I have noticed that the little pale patches of fur on the chin and below the nose are important when painting little cat models. For whatever reasons those are the bits that suddenly make the model ring visually true as a cat, if you know what I mean, like a cartoon cat.

      Thanks for the feedback 🙂

  5. Great paint job on a great sculpt. I particularly like the contrast between the cyber parts and the ginger fur. I’m not familiar with Crossover Miniatures but will go and check them out shortly. Another nice addition to the sci-fi collection 🙂

    • Crossover make the very best 28mm robot and cyborg cat models on the market 🙂 The model was fun and rewarding to paint, Im glad that you like it.

As you have probably worked out from your look at Crossover, they mainly stock superhero miniatures. There are plenty of sci-fi elements too though and Rusti who runs the business is a nice guy. The castongs that I have got have been great and I heartily recommend their products and service 🙂

Minibits(Pendraken) stock a portion of their range in the UK, but they dont include the newer “Black Dragon” sculpts that Crossover picked up recently I think.

  6. Very cool. Looks like a slim Cybot Garfield ;). As always excellent brushwork. The Inquisitor also looks splendid!

    • Thanks daggerandbrush. I had actually originally planned to add some markings down the models spine, spreading out into stripes, which would have made it more like Garfield. I decided against it because the bionics already on the model made it visually busy enough already I think.

Inquisitor Verhoeven was painted in mid 2013. Its a peculiar looking sculpt, but I quite like it. That model has had a lot of adventures since, so I have grown quite fond of the funny looking guy. Thats partly why he has a new cyber-gyrinx sidekick 🙂

    • Considering that its a tiny 28mm scale cyborg cat, it is surprisingly cute I think.

You were slightly creeped out the last time that I put up a picture of several miniature cats surrounding a space elf Suber. You obviously dont have the same hopeless obsession with the creepy little predators that I have, so your compliment counts extra 😉

  9. Can GINGER and her Inquisitor see through each other’s cyber-eyes?

    Liked by 1 person

    • For sure 🙂 If we apply handwavium to the issues of bionic eye installation, essentially the remaining technology isnt not that much more complicated than say a pair of mobile phones running Skype with inset views or just Google glass.

Of course in this context I also imagine that there is low level psychic contact between the Gyrinx and Inquisitor Verhoeven, but thats another thing entirely.

Im going to have to get working on the Interloper miniatures that I got from you soon Legion, they are crying out for it. They will fit in nicely with the rest of my stuff.

      Thanks for the feedback.
