An oft referenced but rarely seen Rogue Trader beast for show in this evenings entry to the Deathworld/Alien Flora and Fauna project: the carnivorous Rippy-fish.
As per Warhammer 40,000 Rogue Trader p.215:
“The Rippy-fish is a piranha-like aquatic creature with pirahna-like habits. It comes from the Lost Hope Death World, though many similar creatures exist on other planets. It is not large, rarely more than 30cm in length, but its uncompromisingly carnivorous appetite and fearless disposition make it deadly. Rippy-fish form shoals of several hundred creatures. They can live in salt or fresh water, and are immune to most poisons, extremes of temperature and pollution.”
The Rippy-fish are CP Models “Fish Swarm”s. I stuck them to plastic 25mm Renedra bases to help prevent chipping, but it wasnt really 100% necessary I guess.
I got these models in the post this morning and fired them out in front of the TV this evening. “Flipping” a model (or models) like that is quite satisfying.

To be fair Gordon gets into most of our scenarios. I dont know if he particularly identifies with space fish over space cats, but Im willing to find out 🙂

Thanks Suber. I knew about these models for a while but even though they were staring me in the face, I didnt think to use them as Rippy-fish until a couple of weeks ago.

The swarms are nicely varied, inexpensive, cleanly cast and I found them easy and enjoyable to paint. Most of them have potential for use in various scales too (see what I did there?). I will get a kick out of seeing some unfortunates devoured by these guys.

Its a slightly peculiar hobby tangent, but if I am honest with myself then I already own enough painted guys with guns.
Space fish on the other hand are thin on the ground I find.

I don’t know why but I though of those fish in Mario Bros you know the one’s in the water levels lol anyway that’s probable just, once again great work from your good self the fish are out of this world so to speak.

A “Cheep Cheep”?
The colour scheme that I used does like a bit like carp, which in turn looks a bit like the Cheep Cheeps 🙂
